# Knap

Knap is an open source Markdown template language and data conversion tool, mainly for developers, document authors, and users of knowledge management tools such as Obsidian. It renders structured data into Markdown documents through variables, filters, and logical statements, which is suitable for automatically generating notes, reports, and information pages. Users can insert data fields into Markdown templates, format, sort and convert content, and can also output content based on conditions or traverse arrays to generate tables. Knap provides online playgrounds, command line tools, and in-app APIs for integration without relying on a specific editor. Core function variable insertion: Put fields in JSON and other data into Markdown templates to automatically generate title, body and attribute content. Filter processing: Sort, format, reference or table conversion of text, arrays and fields to reduce manual organizing work. Conditional and loop logic: determine the output content based on whether the data exists, or traverse arrays to generate lists and tables in batches. Command line rendering: Read templates and data files through CLI, and output Markdown documents in batches. In-app integration: Embed template rendering capabilities into your own apps or automated processes via the npm API. Suitable for developers who need to generate Markdown documents in batches. Users who use Obsidian to manage their notes and knowledge base.
