In 2024, a WeChat public account reported that HiWaifu, an AI social app developed by a 14-person team in Chongqing, had entered the global top seven AI social apps by in-app purchase revenue and generated CNY 20 million in annual revenue without funding. Founder Tao Jiang initially started the project as an independent developer.
