# Tolan parent Portola raises USD 20 million Series A led by Khosla Ventures

Portola, the company behind AI companion app Tolan, raised USD 20 million in Series A funding led by Khosla Ventures and its managing director Keith Rabois, with participation from NFDG (Nat Friedman and Daniel Gross). Following a USD 10 million seed round in month 2, total funding reached USD 30 million within half a year. The team had just 12 people.
